Householders should have a plan in place to know what to do should you be affected by heavy snow, ice and flooding. It is advisable to:

  • Know how to switch off your gas/water/electricity supply.

  • Keep a shovel, boots, gloves, scarf and a supply of salt/grit for clearing snow from your private path/driveway.

  • Keep a basic 'grab bag' containing Torch, Battery radio, Toiletries/first aid kit, Long-life food and bottles of water, Important documents (eg. insurance policy), List of emergency contact numbers, Spare keys to your home/car, Pencil, paper, penknife and whistle 

  • Secure all outdoor equipment, trampolines, bins, plant pots and garden furniture.

  • ​Keep a check on vulnerable neighbours and minimise any travel.
