Capacity Building Programme

 

November 2021 – March 2022

All courses are for volunteers from community/voluntary groups throughout the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area or for those living in the Borough but volunteering with organisations outside the Borough.

The following courses will take place from November 2021 to January 2022. Further courses are also planned for February and March 2022 including Financial Management, Organising a Successful Community Event and Mental Health Programmes which will be advertised in due course.

Emergency First Aid*

Wednesday 3 & Thursday 4 November 6.30pm - 9.30pm in Mossley Mill. Max no. 12 people.

This course is for those who wish to learn how to administer first aid for their community/voluntary organisation activities. It will cover understanding the role of the first aider including reference to the importance of preventing cross infection, the need to record incidents and actions, the use of available equipment and administering first aid in different situations.

Learn How to Email

Wednesday 10 November 6pm - 7pm on Zoom. Max No. 10 people - FREE

This course is for those who would like to learn how to send emails. It will cover sending an email, including attachments, using folders to stay organised, removing spam and phishing emails.

Please note: A smartphone or Apple/Android device is needed for this session in addition to whatever device is used for the Zoom session.

Level 2 Food Safety*

Wednesday 17 & Wednesday 24 November 6pm - 9pm in Mossley Mill for up to 12 people.

This course is for those who wish to prepare or cook food for consumers. It will cover up to date information on best practice in regards to controlling food safety hazards, temperature control, food storage, food preparation and cross contamination, personal hygiene and premises hygiene.

Safeguarding Children & Young People 

Tuesday 11 January on Zoom from 6.30pm - 9.30pm for up to 20 people – FREE

This course is for those who are volunteering with young people in their organisation on a regular basis. This introductory course will provide a clear understanding of how to recognise, report and record concerns about a child’s welfare. It will introduce the legislation underpinning the safeguarding of children and young people.

For courses in Mossley Mill government health guidance will be adhered to.

 

*There is a £5 per person fee for this course as certification will be provided. Attendance at both sessions is essential.
