Coronavirus: Planning Services

Changes to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council's planning services due to COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Last Update: 7 April 2020

As the Council responds to COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Planning Service is currently working within a limited capacity. Although we are reducing our normal services, we will progress current planning applications and appeals wherever possible.

Most applications will continue to be progressed and decided by Planning Officers under the Council’s Scheme of Delegation.

In light of Government advice regarding social distancing arrangements there will be no further Planning Committee meetings for the time being. The Council is however working with its statutory partners to put in place alternative temporary procedures to progress those applications that would have come before the Committee for determination.  In the interim such applications, including those recommended for refusal by Officers, will be held pending future review of this position.

We do however anticipate that we will be able to issue planning approval decisions, technology permitting, and will continue to do so.

Whilst the Council Offices are currently closed to the public, we are still accepting new planning applications and revised schemes by post. For anyone wishing to make a representation on a planning application we would encourage you, wherever possible, to do so by email to planning@antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk or by using the online facility available on the NI Planning Portal website planningni.gov.uk.

General queries can also be submitted to the above email address or you can telephone the Planning Section on T. 0300 123 6677.

The Council will keep the situation under review.
