Memory Book for Mrs Joan Christie CVO OBE

A Dear Friend of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council

A Dear Friend of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council

Mrs Joan Christie CVO, OBE was a dear friend of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.  She served as a Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim from 2008 to 2018 and during this time of dedicated service she supported many Council events and activities and in doing so spread the warmth of her smile and personality across the Borough captivating all those lucky enough to meet this incredible lady.

Mrs Christie remained a true friend beyond her term in office and the Council was delighted that she allowed us to establish The Joan Christie Legacy Bursary Scheme in 2019.  This Bursary Scheme provides support for all things close to Joan’s heart young people, music, horticulture and special education.  Her love and support of our younger citizens will live long in our memory as one of her many passions in life which she dedicated so much of her time to throughout her distinguished career.

Charm, Kindness, Compassion & Dignity

It was with shock and sadness that we learned of Joan’s passing on New Year’s Day 2023. Her sad passing is a huge loss, particularly to her loving family but to all who knew her including her Council family.

All who met Joan were better for having done so. The charm, kindness, compassion and dignity she radiated in all situations left a lasting impression. An outpouring of well wishes following her passing paint a picture of a very remarkable lady we were lucky to call our friend and to have known.

Memory Book

As a mark of respect and to allow colleagues and friends of this wonderful lady to pay their own respects we have opened our own Memory Book where messages paying tribute to Mrs Joan Christie CVO OBE can be left.

Like her Bursary her memory will live long and it will no doubt be of great comfort to her family now and in the years ahead to know what Joan meant to us all.  It is unlikely we will ever see her like again.
