Councillor Paul Dunlop BEM is the Deputy Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey for 2024-2025.

Born and raised in Antrim, Councillor Dunlop’s interest in politics arose as his late father, Sam Dunlop was a former Mayor of Antrim and long serving Councillor.

Following a career at Michelin Tyres for 21 years while working within the local community, he became a Councillor in 2018 and was awarded his BEM by her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his work during Covid-19.

Over the last five years, since taking up his role in Council, Paul has served on the Planning Development Committee, PSCP and has played a vital role in Council’s delivery of the Peace Programmes having held the role of Chair of Peace IV until its conclusion and is currently Chair of PEACEPLUS.

He loves the community spirit within Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough and is looking forward to meeting many of the community organisations and volunteers, who all work so hard to help improve the lives of local residents.

In his spare time Paul enjoys walking with his wife Heather, and watching football and has been involved with Abbeyview Football Club for more than 35 years. He is also a member of a marching band, and takes pride in the many people he has tutored on the drums.
