Councillor Alison Bennington is the Deputy Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey for 2026-2027.
I have nearly 40 years of experience in local government, serving across a range of areas including sport, leisure, arts and parks. Throughout my career, I have been committed to supporting and strengthening local communities and improving opportunities for residents.
I am Office Bearer of the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) which gives me the opportunity to engage in strategic initiatives such as waste management and infrastructure development. I am also proud to serve as a Veterans’ Champion and Chair of two local education boards, roles that allow me to support both our veteran community and the development of future generations.
I am a strong advocate for policies that promote sustainability, social equity and community resilience, and I am passionate about creating inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.
Outside of public service, I am an avid traveller and have visited numerous countries on my motorcycle. I also had the honour of representing Northern Ireland in ladies’ football from 1973 to 1983, earning 24 international caps during my playing career.
