The Worshipful The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross has opened an online book of condolence for residents of the Borough who wish to pay tribute to the victims of the devastating events which took place in Creeslough, Donegal on Friday 7 October.

I wish to express my deepest sympathy to the loved ones of those killed or injured in this unimaginable tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with them at this time of intense grief.

This terrible incident will be utterly devastating for the people of Creeslough, and the sense of shock will reverberate across Donegal and the entire island of Ireland.

I would also like to pay tribute to those members of the emergency services involved in the search and recovery operation, in the most traumatic of circumstances.

My thoughts go out to all those affected by this heart-breaking incident. It is difficult to fathom that such a tragedy could take place as people go about their day-to-day lives.

It is such a massive blow to such as small community. The people of Creeslough will be in our prayers as they attempt to come to terms with these horrific events.

Two councillors from the Borough of Antrim and Newtownabbey have family connections to the local area of Creeslough and are aware of the devastating impact that this will have on the community and the entire county of Donegal.

We would like to express our gratitude to the emergency services and staff at Letterkenny Hospital and also to the emergency response teams from North of the border, who have helped with the tragic accident in Creeslough.
