Join our professional dog trainer in our Dog Companionship Course for Children.

Boost your child’s confidence, independence and social interaction through teaching their family pet fun activities, including agility, tricks, scentwork and more!

Participants will be encouraged to work with each other to help build friendships and encourage confidence with others. They will be taught a number of fun games which they can use at home with their dogs, which will build resilience, confidence and help to reduce stress levels for both child and dog.

Children will be encouraged to practice the activities at home and elsewhere, and to involve family and friends (with initial adult supervision).  This is a chance for children and families to meet others in the community and promote responsible dog ownership, including dog behaviour awareness. The Council’s Dog Warden will be on hand in the final evening to offer advice and guidance.

All children who are training their dog must be at least 7 years old and must be accompanied by an adult.  Other family members can attend also.

The course has space for 10 dogs; maximum 1 dog per person and 2 dogs per family.  Dogs must be socialised, kept under control and on a lead at all times. Flexi leads must be locked short.  Maximum lead length must be no more than 2 meters.

All dogs must have had 2 puppy vaccinations and be over 20 weeks old.
This project supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
