Sensory Room

Relax in a calm space in our Sensory Rooms, available at Valley Leisure Centre, Antrim Forum and Crumlin Leisure Centre. The calming sensory space is for individuals, families and children with learning disabilities or specific needs.

Calming and Relaxing Space

Needs and disabilities are not always visible, making it difficult to know when someone may benefit from using the Sensory Room.

By setting the expectation that this is a calm space, individuals are more likely to feel comfortable using this space.

This room may not always be quiet as those using the resources may make lots of noises as a way for them to relax.

Sensory Room

The Sensory Room is now open at the Valley Leisure Centre, Antrim Forum and Crumlin Leisure Centre.

These specially designed spaces provide a calm, safe and relaxing environment for individuals who may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious or overstimulated.

Sensory rooms can be particularly beneficial for children and adults with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences or anxiety.

Visiting the Sensory Rooms

Our sensory rooms provide a safe and supportive space to explore sensory equipment or take time away from overwhelming environments, helping them to feel calm, secure and focused. As the rooms are intended to be available whenever the need arises, they cannot be booked in advance.

There is currently no set time limit on use; however, to ensure fair access for everyone, staff may periodically check in with users if there are other requests for the room. We may also introduce a protocol to help manage demand and ensure the space remains accessible to those who need it.

Whether someone needs a quiet place to retreat to or an opportunity to explore sensory equipment, the rooms are designed to promote comfort, focus and wellbeing.

Important Information

As the room is intended to meet the immediate needs of customers, it cannot be booked in advance.
The sensory room is available for individual use by leisure centre customers when needed and is not available for group bookings.
To access the room, please speak to a member of staff at reception who will be happy to assist. Our staff are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive experience for all users.

Our centres also offer Quiet Hour sessions, which provide a more relaxed leisure centre environment.
