Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council show their support for the National Health Service

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council lit up their Civic buildings last night in support of the National Health Service.

Antrim Civic Centre, Ballyclare Town Hall and Mossley Mill lit up blue as they joined a nationwide celebration of the amazing work being carried out by the National Health Service. A special round of applause was also upheld around the United Kingdom, saluting the brave and selfless staff of the NHS.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Alderman John Smyth, reached out to the residents of the Borough with a heartfelt message encouraging people to support this nationwide campaign. “We are all in very uncertain times at the minute and everyone is worried about themselves and their families. There has been huge disruption across the world and we feel that impact right here in our households and communities. Local businesses are suffering, services have been affected and children’s education is severely interrupted.

Throughout all this upheaval, one thing remains constant. That is the commitment, dedication and professionalism of our NHS and healthcare staff. We know that work is happening right here in the heart of our Borough, both in the hospitals and in the community and these workers deserve our gratitude.

So, I urge you to stand together as a community, open your doors and join your neighbours, at a safe distance, and show your thanks to these heroes with a round of applause.

Please help to protect our vital NHS, and save lives by obeying the Government instructions and staying at home.”
