Local residents recognised

The New Year Honours List for 2020 was recently published which recognises the achievements and service of individuals across the United Kingdom.
 
Included on the list is Councillor Paul Michael for his service to local government in Antrim and Newtownabbey and four-time Paralympic gold medalist, Dr Michael McKillop for services to Disability Awareness and Athletics in Northern Ireland.
 
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman John Smyth commented

“I was delighted to hear that some of our residents were recognised on the New Year’s Honours List. Councillor Michael has faithfully served our Borough for more than 20 years and has held the position of Mayor on two occasions. He is truly deserving of this outstanding achievement.”

 
Alderman Smyth continued,

“Dr Michael McKillop, born and bred in Newtownabbey, is one of Northern Ireland’s most successful elite sportsmen. With four Paralympic gold medals and seven World Champion titles to his name, he has well and truly put our Borough on the world stage. Michael has devoted much of his time actively promoting Paralympic sport across the country and there is no doubt that he is a worthy recipient of this award.”
