New gateway entrance for multi-million pound Junction development

Planning permission has been granted for a new gateway entrance road at the Junction.

The Planning Committee of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has granted permission for a new gateway entrance road and major environmental improvement works at the Junction in Antrim.

The scheme forms a key part of the overall £23.5 million masterplan for the regeneration of the Junction, approved by the Council in December 2017. This development will complement ongoing works at the site, including the recent completion of a McDonalds drive thru and the construction of a new Lidl store scheduled to open later this year.

Following the decision, Committee Chairman, Councillor Henry Cushinan commented; “Implementation of this scheme will provide a tree lined boulevard leading to a new public square at the Junction.  These environmental improvements will not only improve access into the site but will help create a new focal point and promote ongoing regeneration at the site.”

Councillor Cushinan continued; “The Council welcomes the continued investment by the Lotus Group at The Junction and recognises the contribution of this scheme in maintaining jobs in Antrim.”
