Council Cemeteries – Re-Opening Saturday 25 April 9am

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has announced its cemeteries will re-open with temporary restrictions in place, from 9am Saturday 25 April.
 

The decision was taken following a meeting of the Northern Ireland Executive on Friday 24 April. At that meeting it was agreed to revise the provisions surrounding access to cemeteries within the legislation governing the Northern Ireland public health response to COVID19.
 
Cemeteries will re-open with the following conditions:
 
  • All pedestrian gates will be open from 9am – 8pm
  • Vehicular access will be controlled from 9am to 5pm (Priority will be given to Funeral Services during this time
  • Numbers of mourners at burials should be no more than 10 people
  • All visitors should adhere to safe social distancing regulations and respect the health and safety of staff and other visitors at all times.
A spokesperson for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council said:
 
“We understand how difficult this restriction was for people who have lost a loved one, and we hope today’s decision brings them some comfort. We appreciate the cooperation of the public in observing the previous restrictions and respecting the new arrangements.”
