Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has expressed its gratitude to NHS staff and other frontline care workers with the approval of a motion at Monday night’s Council meeting.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has expressed its gratitude to NHS staff and other frontline care workers with the approval of a motion at Monday night’s Council meeting.

Proposed by Councillor Matthew Magill, approval was granted on the motion which read:

“This Council recognises the importance of our National Health Service and the heroic contribution of our health and social care workers, and care home workers, throughout the pandemic; expresses our thanks for their commitment to and care for our community and will write to the Health Minister Robin Swann MLA asking him to administer a “thank you” payment of at least £500 as a practical demonstration of our gratitude."

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery commented

“I welcome this motion and would like to echo the gratitude of the Council. In doing so I urge the people of Antrim and Newtownabbey to support our NHS and frontline care workers to respect the restrictions and follow the guidance on controlling the spread of the virus.

“The gallant efforts of our NHS will go down in history as one of the greatest acts of selflessness shown in the face of adversity. Serving the whole community, they face these challenges at the front-line, but we must stand steadfastly behind them, and not make their monumental task any more difficult.”
