Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery has welcomed the news that Belfast International and Belfast City Airports are to receive funding of £7.8m to counteract the impact of COVID19 restrictions.

“Belfast International Airport is a vital and valued major piece of infrastructure within our Borough and I am pleased that the NI Executive has recognised the significant financial losses incurred as a result of the unprecedented drop in demand. The leadership at the Airport have been frank and forthright about the pressures they were experiencing. I heard those concerns first-hand when I met Managing Director Graham Keddie in September and I joined my voice to their campaign for an urgent intervention.

Our airports and airlines are a critical part of our economic landscape and it is vital they are supported to ensure connectivity is sustained for our regional economy and to drive its recovery.”
