Mayor raises £12,000 for local charities

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman John Smyth raises £12,000 for his nominated charities.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman John Smyth was delighted to present cheques totalling £12,000 to his nominated charities for the year; Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Fund for Children.

Alderman Smyth said;

“One of the most rewarding things about being Mayor is the opportunity to support local charities during the Mayoral term. So it was with great pleasure that I was able to hand over cheques of £6,000 each to my two charities. These charities play a vital role in our community and it was humbling during the year to learn more about the amazing work they do and the lives they change.”

“During my time as Mayor, I have carried out many fundraising activities including a number of bag packs in supermarkets throughout the Borough. I want to thank all those who gave up their time to assist me in raising these funds, as well as those who dug deep and gave so generously. These charities are very close to my heart and I know every penny raised will be hugely appreciated by those individuals and families who rely on these charities during difficult times in their lives.”
