Mayor welcomes £430k Funding for Town Centre Recovery

Retail and town centres within Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough will receive a welcome boost following the announcement of £430k grant funding from the Department for Communities (DfC).
 
The £430k will drive forward Antrim and Newtownabbey Council’s Retail and Town Centre Re-opening Mobilisation Team’s agreed action plan. The recently established Retail and Town Centre Re-opening Mobilisation Team aims to strengthen the sector following the impact of COVID-19. Their action plan focuses on building consumer confidence, increasing footfall and delivering best practice in accordance with Central Government guidance in the town centres. 
 
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said, “I am delighted the Council has been able to secure this much needed funding from the Department for Communities. The businesses in our Borough have been severely impacted by COVID-19, and I am encouraged to hear that this funding is available to assist with their recovery.”
 
The Council hopes to secure a further £80k funding under a support scheme sponsored by the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA). If approved, this funding will enable the Council to extend the type of town centre support being funded by DfC into rural villages.
