Play Park works to commence

Improvement and Accessibility Investment Programme.

Works will start next week on an improvement and accessibility investment programme for a number of play parks across Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.

This investment of over £400,000 will see the installation of new play equipment and extensions to existing play parks at a number of sites, along with the provision of accessible parking bays, resurfacing and the replacement of fencing at some locations. In addition, accessible wheelchair swings will also be installed at play parks in Ballyclare, Crumlin, Jordanstown and Randalstown.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Noreen McClelland said;

“As Chair of Council’s Equality and Diversity Working Group, I am delighted that Council has prioritised this investment to improve the access and inclusion at a number of our play parks. In these extremely challenging times, many capital works that were programmed for the incoming year have had to be postponed but it is testament to this Council, the importance that they place on ensuring our facilities and services are accessible to everyone in the Borough.”

“The Council has worked hard over the years to improve the accessibility to our facilities and I have witnessed at first hand, the life changing impact that play equipment, such as a wheelchair swing can have on a family’s life. In order to carry out the work, the play parks will be closed on a rolling basis for a short period of time, but I look forward to the works being complete and watching children of all abilities enjoying our facilities.”
