Council on the charge to improve Electric Vehicle Charging Points

Council is progressing plans to add additional charging points across the Borough to meet the growing demand from electric car users.

Driving forward a greener and cleaner Borough is a focus of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council as it seeks to improve electric vehicle charge points across the area.

A number of charging points have already been in place at Council facilities for several years and are due for replacement. Plans are also being progressed and funding opportunities explored to add additional charging points across the Borough to meet the growing demand from electric car users.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said;

“As a Council, we are committed to a low carbon future and increasing the access to electric vehicle charging points is one of the actions we can take to contribute to a cleaner environment.”

“We want to make it easier and more accessible for our residents and visitors with electric vehicles to charge their cars and so we are working with a range of partners and funders to achieve the best possible coverage of charging points right across the Borough. We also want to encourage more residents to consider greener modes of transport when buying a vehicle in the future.”

“As well as including charging points in Council facilities and our off street car parks, we are looking at low carbon solutions for our own fleet of vehicles. These actions all contribute to the Council’s Climate Action Plan to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions throughout the Borough. A greener Borough, will be a healthier Borough, and we can improve the quality of life for our people across Antrim and Newtownabbey. ”
