Council to place memorial in remembrance of HRH Prince Philip

Following a motion which was proposed by Councillor Leah Smyth and seconded by Councillor Robert Foster, the Council will place a permanent memorial to His Royal Highness, Duke of Edinburgh.
 
The motion read:
 

“This Council wishes to pass on our deepest sympathy to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on the passing of HRH Duke of Edinburgh. Our Nation mourns with her. In recognition of his lifelong dedication to his Royal duties and
commitments, as well as his service in the Navy during WW2, this Council wishes to place a permanent memorial to Prince Philip in our Borough as a mark of respect and Remembrance.”

 
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said;

“It is fitting that we as a Council convey our deepest sympathy to Her Majesty the Queen on the passing of her dear husband Prince Philip. His Royal Highness’ The Duke of Edinburgh was a man dedicated to his duty, his family and his Monarch. More than 200 heartfelt tributes have been paid to him on the Council’s online Book of Condolence, and these are a reflection of esteem in which he was held. I look forward to the occasion when the memorial in recognition of his service is unveiled.”
