Exciting Summer Events bringing our Towns back to life

It’s exciting to be getting out and about this summer and we are all looking forward to a wide range of exiting events, meeting up with family and friends and enjoying all of the things that we all once took for granted.

It’s exciting to be getting out and about this summer and we are all looking forward to a wide range of exciting events, meeting up with family and friends and enjoying all of the things that we all once took for granted.

Live Music, Outdoor Theatre, Festivals, Family Events, Comedy and Dance – we have it all covered!

The Big Wheel with its panoramic views of Antrim, Lough Neagh and beyond has arrived at Market Square Antrim.  It will be there until the end of June before it moves to Jordanstown Loughshore in the middle of August where you can enjoy the picturesque views over Belfast Lough.

We have missed the sound of children’s laughter and we look forward to welcoming families back to our Schools out for summer event at V36 on June 25 and Brighter Nights at Lilian Bland Community Park every Friday evening from 2 July – 27 August for children aged 2-11years.

The ease of restrictions will also see our Summer Sunday Music programme return to a number of our local parks and visitor attractions including Loughshore Park Jordanstown and Antrim Castle Gardens each Sunday from 4 July – 29 August.

The Majestic Antrim Castle Gardens will host The Antrim and Newtownabbey Pipe Band Festival on 24 July allowing visitors to enjoy the haunting music of the pipes in a safe environment.

We can still bring you the magic of Theatre in our Outdoor Super Summer Series planned for the Civic Square at Mossley Mill each Saturday from 30 July which include the Illegals, Neil Delamere, Peter Corry and much more.

The One Giant Weekend will take place from Friday 3- Sunday 5 September as part of our Centenary of Northern Ireland commemorative programme. This three day festival of family fun will also include Antrim Live, Spinning Yarns and smaller elements of Garden Show Ireland. Other headline acts will include Live Music, Comedy, Drama, One Giant Picnic and A Celebration of Cultures – it would be One Big Mistake to miss it!

Other Annual events, Party in the Park at Antrim Castle Gardens on Sunday 1 August, Spooked Out at Halloween and Enchanted Winter Garden at Christmas will also make a welcome return.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Cllr Jim Montgomery said, “As we all embark on the road to recovery, we can start to look forward to enjoying the many things we have all missed over the past year.  The events the council have planned will bring us all together again, bringing our venues back to life. I personally have missed the Arts and Culture and I look forward to seeing live entertainment once again”.

Keep an eye on Council social media and website for more details on our upcoming events.
