Transforming our Town Centres

Council puts in place plans to transform each of its five towns.

Town centres across Antrim and Newtownabbey will be better places to shop, work and visit as the Council puts in place plans to transform each of its five towns.

New art installations, street dressing, floral displays and planting will all help catch the eye of those in our towns. Enhanced lighting will illuminate landmarks and spaces, whilst music and public address systems will allow you to soak up the atmosphere we have all missed.

The plans will integrate with a wider focus on Tourism and for visitors we will see improved signage, to connect up the parts of our towns and make sure they experience more of our attractions and spaces. A busy events programme will also bring back people into our towns and draw visitors to the Borough.

Vacant land will be put to use as public space for events to support the hospitality and retail sectors, and there a number of larger schemes in the pipeline for major improvements to the public realm.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr Jim Montgomery said,

“Town Centres are at the heart of our recovery, and these will deliver early progress in build back our local economy. The Council will work in close partnership with traders and other local stakeholders, and we are excited to unveil more details of our plans through our engagement with them in the weeks and months ahead.”
