Increasing skills for the local community

Council commits almost £11k to delivering another Community Capacity Building Programme

Volunteers within the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough will have the opportunity to develop their skills as the Council commits almost £11k to deliver another Community Capacity Building Programme. Running from October 2021 to March 2022, the programme is designed to provide relevant training, guidance and support to volunteers from groups within the Borough, giving them the tools to continue delivering projects and services which have a positive impact on their local community. Training will be provided free of charge thanks to almost £11k of Council funding.

This year’s programme includes courses on Digital Awareness, Financial Management, Mental Health, First Aid and Organising a Community Event to name a few and has been tailored in line with feedback received from a recent community survey.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb said; “Community groups play a vital role in our society and it’s crucial that the volunteers within those groups are supported and equipped to deliver their activities and services. We had a great response to the community consultation and I am pleased that this year’s programme includes some of those courses which have been identified by our groups.”

The programme is open to anyone over the age of 16 who is involved in community or voluntary work within the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.  Bookings for this year’s programme will open in mid September 2021.
