Student Exchange Programme to America Gets Green Light for 2022

Students will soon be invited to apply for the 2022 Gilbert Sister Cities Student Exchange Programme. The programme offers two students, aged 16 and 17, from Antrim and Newtownabbey, and two students from Gilbert, Arizona, the opportunity to spend six weeks living with each other next summer. With half of the time spent in Antrim and Newtownabbey and the other half in Gilbert, Arizona, the lucky students will learn about each other’s home country and way of life through a family living experience.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb said,

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local students to travel and develop an understanding of a different country, its culture and its people. Having been to Arizona myself, I am delighted that we are continuing to fund and offer this opportunity to the young people of our Borough as it is a fantastic place to experience the American way of life.

He added, “The programme has been running for many years now and has given a once in a lifetime opportunity to many students. It’s great to see our relationship with our friends over in Gilbert continue and I look forward to welcoming students from Arizona to our Borough next year.”

The selection process to recruit the two students will be promoted through schools, colleges, and social media. For more details on the Sister Cities Student Exchange Programme, email business@antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk
