Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has granted planning permission for a new ASDA Store on the Doagh Road, Newtownabbey. The £17.5 million investment includes a Food Store as well as an eight-bay Petrol Filling Station with a Click and Collect facility.

Welcoming the decision, Vice-Chair of the Planning Committee, Councillor Sam Flanagan said,

“This major investment is very positive news for our Borough. It is anticipated that during the build phase, the scheme will generate 100 construction jobs, followed by 258 full time equivalent jobs once the store is operational, generating £4.37 million per annum in salaries. In addition, the new store will generate £11 million in gross value added per annum to Northern Ireland’s GDP. This decision not only brings a major investment to our Borough, but also widens the consumer choice available to our residents.”

“Engaging positively with the development community is an important aspect of our economic development strategy. The transformation of this site, will also see important environmental and infrastructure improvements that will benefit the area.”
