Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is contributing to a national discussion on priorities for strengthening the United Kingdom. At Monday night’s Council meeting, Members approved the Council’s response to the Union Connectivity Review, Chaired by Sir Peter Hendy.

Last June the Prime Minister announced a detailed independent review would be undertaken by Sir Peter Hendy to review of how transport infrastructure across the UK can support economic growth and quality of life across the whole of the UK. The Review will make recommendations as to whether and how best to improve transport connectivity across the UK in the long term, including how to bolster existing connections.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said,

“It is fitting that in Northern Ireland’s Centenary year that Council is taking the opportunity to influence and shape the national vision for the United Kingdom in the years and decades ahead. A common identity is one thing, but Infrastructure creates those physical ties that bind us together as one united people. In its response, Council has highlighted a number of key projects to improve connectivity and the quality of life, and we hope these are recognised in any final recommendations Sir Peter Hendy’s Review brings forward.”
