Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has agreed to request a meeting with the Minister for Infrastructure to discuss the regeneration of Antrim Town. Proposed by the Mayor Councillor Jim Montgomery and Seconded by Alderman John Smyth, Councillors Paul Dunlop, Neil Kelly, Roisin Lynch and Leah Smyth the motion read; “This Council recognises the importance of the regeneration of Antrim town Centre and requests a meeting with the Minister for Infrastructure to discuss access to High Street and Castle Street from the Dublin Road.” Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said,
“Antrim Town is one of our important economic centres, and we must realise its full potential. I’m pleased that this motion has achieved cross-party support, and look forward to discussing some key projects with the Minister that we believe can unlock better movement of people, regenerate the town centre, and ultimately deliver greater prosperity.”
