Kidney Cancer is a silent killer and many people don’t realise they have it until it has progressed to a late stage, also known as renal cancer, it is one of the more common types of cancer in Northern Ireland, usually affecting adults in their 60s or 70s.

Now in its sixth year, Kidney Cancer Awareness Week aims to raise the overall profile of the disease across the UK and Northern Ireland by highlighting symptoms and the many shortfalls on the path to diagnosis. Despite being the seventh most common cancer in the UK, kidney cancer remains relatively unheard of; but together we can change that.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Jim Montgomery said

“I am pleased the Council are actively promoting this campaign. It is important that the public are aware of the different types of Cancers and the symptoms they present. We must all take ownership of our health and by taking small steps to improve our lifestyle we can prevent the risk of Cancer and ultimately save lives.”
