Council supports School Diversity Week 21-25 June

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Billy Webb paid a special visit to Glengormley High School on Monday 21 June to support School Diversity Week.

 

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Billy Webb paid a special visit to Glengormley High School on Monday 21 June to support School Diversity Week. The school is hosting a week-long diversity event as part of their ‘Transformation Process’ towards Integrated School status.
 
This week-long event will help pupils explore and celebrate a variety of cultures through music, dance, and cooking.  With a range of activities taking place each day which aim to educate the children and give them a better cultural understanding.  The event will conclude with a colour run and celebration day on Friday 25 June.
 
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb said

“I am pleased to attend Glengormley High School to see some of the activities taking place during Diversity Week.  It’s great to see so many cultures being celebrated and explored by the pupils as part of their bid towards becoming an integrated school.” 

 
Joanne O’Neill a teacher at Glengormley High School added

“It really is about showing the pupils and wider community that as a school we welcome every pupil in through our school gates. We may all be different but together as a school community we are one.”
 

Glengormley High school began their journey to become integrated in January 2019, they believe that the future of Northern Ireland lies in children from all backgrounds and cultures being educated together.
