Her Majesty the Queen will celebrate her milestone 95th birthday on Saturday 12 June. To commemorate this special day the Council will light up its civic buildings red.

Queen Elizabeth II was actually born on April 21, 1926; however If a British monarch has a birthday that doesn't fall in the summer months, they can have a second official birthday. This tradition was started in 1748 by King George II, who was born in November. The date change is because having a summer birthday means a higher chance of good weather during the Trooping the Colour parade for the monarch's birthday.
Unfortunately due to the pandemic Trooping the Colour will not take place this year.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Billy Webb MBE JP, said

“I am pleased the Council is recognising this momentous occasion by lighting up its civic buildings. The Queen has had a challenging year and I hope that the recognition of her birthday nationwide will bring her some comfort and happiness.”
