Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is ensuring that local priorities are included in the Northern Ireland Executive’s future plans.

The NI Executive’s Programme for Government establishes priority outcomes to improve the wellbeing of citizens particularly post-COVID as well ideas about how central government, local government and the private sector work together to achieve these.

The Investment Strategy sets out the framework for future public sector capital investment in economic and social infrastructure.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said

“It is important for the Council to make the voice of local citizens heard, and contributing to these documents and strategies is a key way in which we do this.

“Informing the Programme for Government, we have highlighted important issues such as working together and improving town centres, and meeting the challenges of climate change.”

“On the Investment Strategy, we raised the strategic importance of Belfast International Airport. Transport and connectivity is a significant priority focus and we have highlighted the need for rail halts at Ballymartin, and the extension of the proposed Glider into Newtownabbey. We also want to see more investment across our health and education estates.”
