Back to School for School Uniforms!

It’s back to school for school uniforms as the Council launches the School Uniform Re-Use Scheme.

It’s back to school for school uniforms as the Council launches the School Uniform Re-Use Scheme.

Following the success of this pilot scheme last year, where 2200 items of clothing were donated, we are asking you, our residents to support this initiative by donating all good quality items of school uniform that you no longer require.

This year, we are delighted to welcome new groups on board, with sixteen community groups and schools now supporting this scheme, across Antrim, Ballyclare, Crumlin, Glengormley, Randalstown, Toomebridge and Whiteabbey. This will allow us to help even more families, in what has been a difficult time for so many.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery and Councillor Noreen McClelland paid a visit to Toome House, TIDAL Community Organisation and St John’s Church of Ireland, Ballyclare, two of the venues supporting this project.

The Mayor said “It is good to see the increased support for this scheme which is vital to so many people. Given how quickly children grow out of their uniforms it makes great sense for these to be re-used. Helping not only those in need but also reducing waste and the environmental impacts. I would urge you not to dispose of any unwanted items of school uniform and to donate them to your local scheme”.

Uniform donations will be accepted by all venues from Wednesday 30 June – Friday 9 July. Please visit antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/uniform for information of drop off locations and specific details for individual groups as each scheme will operate their own days and times.
