Mayor welcomes £32m investment in Education College

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery recently paid a visit to CAFRE, Greenmount Campus in Antrim following the news of a £32million investment.

Built more than 50 years ago, the education college, which also offers accommodation and leisure facilities, will undergo a significant refurbishment programme including modern, high-tech facilities to support student learning. 

The college provides a range of qualifications up to degree standard in farming and agri-food and this investment will ensure sustained recruitment onto the wide portfolio of courses.

Welcoming the investment, the Mayor said;

“This is fantastic news for our Borough. CAFRE, Greenmount delivers education and innovation programmes which are vital for the continued growth of our agri-food sector. This investment will ensure the college remains at the forefront of its industry, promoting the latest advances in agriculture and land use. The design and construction of the new buildings will be environmentally sustainable, enhancing the well-being of all who use, live and work in them.”

CAFRE, Cookstown Campus, which specialises in food education, will also benefit from a £43m investment, with works scheduled to commence at both sites in 2023 and due for completion in 2028.
