Read Yourself Well scheme launched at Theatre at The Mill

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council in partnership with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust launched the Read Yourself Well scheme at Theatre at The Mill earlier this month.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council in partnership with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust launched the Read Yourself Well scheme at Theatre at The Mill earlier this month. A self-help reading initiative with an extensive collection of health and wellness related books recommended and written by wellness experts, doctors and best-selling authors. These books are available to borrow from Theatre at The Mill and offer the public the opportunity to learn more about a variety of health issues including anxiety, grief, addiction, pain management and many other long-term conditions.

The Read Yourself Well Scheme first launched in Rathcoole and Antrim Libraries in 2018 and the full collection is still available in these venues for public use. The Northern Health and Social Care Trust and Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council want to extend the initiative into other community based facilities within the Borough to expand the audience of the scheme. Theatre at the Mill is the first extension to the scheme and further additional venues are being considered.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb spoke of the initiative: “On behalf of the Council I welcome this partnership initiative which aims to improve health and wellbeing of our residents through better access to helpful, trustworthy and supportive books on a wide range of conditions. This should be of great help to many people and I would encourage everyone to use these free resources.”

Hugh Nelson from the Northern Health and Social Care Trust commented: “The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is committed to contributing to community planning and is delighted to have worked closely with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council to support the expansion of the Read Yourself Well scheme to a community setting. This new collection offers free access to a wide range of health and wellbeing information for people to take away and read at a time that suits them.”
