The No Hate Here campaign will also endeavour to eliminate hate crime by continuing to work to maintain Antrim and Newtownabbey as a place where we can all live, work and play in safety and know that residents and visitors can do the same. Reaffirming the Council’s commitment to challenge hate crime incidents and practices and continue to nurture an atmosphere where hate crime will not be tolerated so that everyone can feel safe in a shared community.

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr Billy Webb said;

“Our Borough is a very welcoming area and we all as a society have worked hard to create a safe place for everyone to live, play and work in without the fear of discrimination and prejudice, which we will not tolerate. I support the message ‘Say No to Hate’ and to report all hate crime so together we can end this type of crime in our Borough. I am pleased by the diversity in our Borough and how we have engaged in creating safe spaces throughout the whole area. Let us all continue to work together to eliminate all issues of hate crime and support our partner organisations with these initiatives.”

Chair of Antrim and Newtownabbey PCSP, Cllr Julie Gilmour added,

“Through the PCSP we work with all our partners to consistently promote equality and acceptance.  I strongly support the message that we all need to work together to end hate crime and also would promote that everyone’s small acts of kindness count towards one large response that acts of hate and prejudice have no place in Antrim and Newtownabbey.  Within the PCSP we will continue to raise awareness and deliver initiatives to promote a culture of acceptance.”

Chief Inspector David Moore said:

We are committed to working with our partners and external support services to give victims of hate crime the confidence to report. We recognise that barriers exist when it comes to reporting crimes or incidents and taking those next steps through the process. There is help and support available every step of the way and we will continue to engage with communities to ensure that victims and witnesses have the confidence they need to come forward.

“You can report a hate crime by contacting us on 101 or in an emergency dial 999. Reports can also be made online via the PSNI website. Information can be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
