The relaxation of Sunday opening hours, which were due to finish at the end of this month, will be extended further until the end of December 2021.
This announcement comes in light of the continued pandemic risk and to facilitate key workers, healthcare workers and customers with disabilities to shop between 10am and 1pm. It will allow larger shops, previously not permitted to open until 1pm on Sundays, to manage customer volumes and ensure social distancing guidelines are adhered to.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb commented,
“It is vital that we continue to support our key workers during this time by giving them additional flexibility to shop in a safe environment. The health and wellbeing of our local residents and businesses must be a priority and I am pleased that the Council can allow the relaxation of Sunday opening hours to facilitate this”.
