An Exciting line up of Events for 2022

An exciting events plan for the year ahead will help increase visitors to our towns and villages and further enhance the Boroughs reputation as a great place to live, work, visit and invest in.

An exciting events plan for the year ahead will help increase visitors to our towns and villages and further enhance the Boroughs reputation as a great place to live, work, visit and invest in. These events will help spotlight our communities, towns, villages and venues and also build a sense of civic pride amongst our local people.

The Council event programme is made up of three main types;

  • Community local events
  • Borough Events
  • Regional Flagship events which attract visitors from outside the Borough

A number of flagship events will take place across the Borough from Easter and includes the return of Garden Show Ireland to Antrim Castle Gardens at the end of April and Party in The Park in August. A series of profile events are also planned to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee over the Jubilee Weekend in June. Council led events will be complemented by a range of community events, which will be delivered with the support of a special Platinum Jubilee Community Events Fund.

The revival of events in 2021 was greatly welcomed by both residents and visitors alike. Town Centre events and animations in 2021 which included the Urban Markets, Son et Lumiere and live music were instrumental in supporting the retail and hospitality sectors recovery. This animation has helped create a vibrant atmosphere across Borough towns and has been supported by marketing campaigns such as #shoplocal and #backinbusiness.  The Council will continue to support town centre recovery and regeneration in 2022 with a series of events and entertainment in the heart of towns.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Billy Webb said “I am looking forward to seeing a lot more events taking place across the Borough this year. 2022 will hopefully be a more positive year for our local businesses and hospitality sector and I hope with the return of many of our flagship events we will attract many visitors to our Borough and support the Council’s tourism offer.”
