Looking after our over 50s!

Earlier this week, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council welcomed almost 90  residents to Theatre at the Mill to launch Positive Ageing month.

Positive Ageing month is a month-long festival of events and activities for older people to celebrate the contribution they make to our community and our Borough.

During the event, residents heard from the keynote speaker, Selena Ramsey from Northern Health and Social Care Trust. This focused on how everyone can look after their mental and emotional wellbeing such as ensuring you connect with family and friends, be active in a way you enjoy and learn something new regularly.

There was also a number of other speakers covering important topics such as the cost of living, falls prevention, keeping active and taking notice in the local area. A health fair with exhibitors from statutory bodies, community and voluntary groups also ran alongside the main event which gave residents the opportunity to learn about, and connect with services right on their doorstep.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross said,

The residents of our Borough who are over 50 play a massive part in our community and I am delighted that we get to celebrate their contribution during Positive Ageing month. It is great to see many here today, getting plenty of free help and advice. If you were unable to attend, make sure you check out our Positive Ageing Booklet which contains all of the great events and activities we have coming up.
