Several car parks in towns and villages across the Borough are set to benefit from a £1.1m refurbishment programme.

Several car parks in towns and villages across the Borough are set to benefit from a £1.1m refurbishment programme.

Following on from improvement works carried out at car parks in Antrim, Randalstown and Ballyclare, the Council plans to carry out two further upgrade schemes, each costing £550,000.

The first package of work, estimated to be completed by May 2023, includes improvements to the Shore Road car park in Whiteabbey, as a well as the car park at Farmley Road/Glenwell Road in Glengormley.

A second scheme will see works carried out at car parks on Railway Street and Castle Street in Antrim, and John Street in Randalstown. These are estimated to be finished by December 2023.

The works across the two schemes will include:

  • resurfacings and drainage improvements,
  • increased disability and family parking provision,
  • upgraded lighting
  • wider stalls
  • improved traffic flow

Meanwhile, refurbishment of Bridge Street car park in Antrim is still ongoing and is expected to be completed next month.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross said:

“On the back of improvements to car parks Antrim Central, Antrim Forum, Harrier Way in Ballyclare and Portglenone Road in Randalstown, it is great to see the continued efforts being carried out to upgrade our facilities for residents and visitors. This will help encourage people to shop in our town centre and villages.”
