Council confirmed as finalists in the MJ Achievement Awards 2023

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has been confirmed as finalists for the Best Council Services Team (Economic Development) and Senior Leadership Team in this year’s MJ Achievement Awards.

The Council also received a “Commended” certification in Leadership in responding to the Climate Emergency.

The MJ Achievement Awards recognises and celebrates the success for those working in local government across the UK, who dedicate themselves to serve their local communities.

The Council’s Economic Development Team has a reputation for being tenacious, innovative and proactive. The team’s motto “Delivering for Business” is clearly substantiated through their success which has seen the team assisting 140 unemployed people into work, assisting over 230 businesses to expand their operations and securing £6m of regeneration grant funding in 2022 alone; in addition to the creation of over 2,000 jobs and securing £600m worth of business investment to date.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Alderman Stephen Ross said; “I am delighted that the Council has been shortlisted as finalists at these prestigious awards. Our Council is forward thinking with great Civic Leadership.

The joint service between planning and economic development has seen the Council recognised as the top performing Council in Northern Ireland for planning applications and attracting investment, which has been instrumental to our successful business portfolio and securing major global investments to our Borough.

“I am very proud of the work we do as a Council and I would like to wish the teams the very best of luck for the finals.”

The final will take place at the Park Plaza, Westminster on Friday 23 June 2023.
