Girls’ SuperCupNI Tournament Returns to The Borough this Summer

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is delighted to announce that it will be hosting the SuperCupNI Girls’ Tournament following its successful debut last year.

The football fixtures for the tournament were revealed by Claire McCollum at Mossley Mill, and special guests, including Conrad Kirkwood, President of the Irish FA, Angela Platt, IFA Director of Womens Football and Antrim-born Emily Wilson, Northern Ireland International and Glentoran F.C player were also in attendance.

Last summer, football fever was at an all-time high when the Girls’ SuperCup was first played across the Borough and coupled with the excitement of the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 this saw a boost in participation of girls’ football.

The Council is looking forward to welcoming 12 teams of aspiring young female international footballers back to our Borough. This year’s tournament is set to double in size with matches being played across the Borough from 23-28 July. The new venues include Cloyne Crescent, Monkstown, The Diamond in Rathcoole, and Chimney Corner in Antrim and last year’s venues, Mossley Park and Dixon Park in Ballyclare

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Alderman Stephen Ross said:

“We are delighted to once again be selected as one of the three Council’s sponsoring the SuperCupNI.

“The standard of football last year was outstanding and we are so excited to welcome these elite players back again to compete this year. We’ve already seen an upsurge in participation in girls’ football in our venues.  This was started by our amazing Northern Ireland Women’s Team on their journey to the Euros and further developed by this incredible international tournament that we are so proud to have within our Borough.

“Last year we saw an incredible amount of support for the Girls’ SuperCup and I would encourage everyone to come out and support this prestigious sporting event at one of the local venues.”
