We are the Community Mental Health Champions

To help tackle mental health issues in the area, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council recently funded and ran a series of workshops to train up local community volunteers on Mental Health First Aid. These volunteers, now known as ‘Community Mental Health Champions’, have been trained on how to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and how to sign post people to seek appropriate professional help.

Scrapyard Golf Celebrates Tee-rific Success

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross recently visited Scrapyard Golf, a business that opened its doors in July 2022 and has gone from strength to strength since. Located in Glengormley, Scrapyard Golf offers a unique and entertaining experience to visitors of all ages, featuring repurposed street furniture, signs, skateboards, bumps, and remoulded tyres as obstacles throughout the crazy golf course. From its humble beginnings, with only 20 visitors per day, the venue has quickly grown to welcome up to 500 people daily, showcasing its rapid success within the Borough.
