Mayor Raises over £50,000 for Charities

Outgoing Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross was honoured to present cheques to his nominated charities for the year: Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, Men’s Advisory Project (MAP) and Positive Life. During his time as Mayor, through different fundraising events and initiatives, he has raised an amazing £51,000 for the three charities.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Alderman Stephen Ross said, “I would like to thank everyone who donated to these charities over the last year. As a result of your generosity, I have been able to present each charity with £17,000, a fantastic amount which will aid them to continue their great work in our local community.

“This is my last official engagement as Mayor and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for supporting me in this role over this last 12 months. It has been an honour to represent the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough and I am grateful for all the opportunities which this position has afforded me.”

The Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice is a local charity providing specialist respite, symptom management and end of life palliative care to more than 400 infants, children and young people living with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.

Men’s Advisory Project (MAP) provides counselling service for men experiencing domestic abuse and the issues they face. They also assist men with anger management and relationship support.

Positive Life aims to raise awareness and challenge negative perceptions of HIV across Northern Ireland and to promote a positive future for people living with or affected by the condition.

Many events contributed to this fantastic amount including the Mayor’s Spring Ball, the Charity Auction, the Staff Spinathon and Christmas Lunch and other Mayoral events throughout the year. For more details on the Mayor’s Charities visit antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/mayorscharities
