Mayor Congratulates Award Winning Business on their Continued Success in the Borough and Beyond

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Mark Cooper has visited local business Ke Nako Biltong to see first-hand the amazing success they have had since they founded in 2012.  Ke Nako makes a range of products including award-winning Biltong (strips of tender beef preserved with a special blend of spices), from sustainable, ethically and locally sourced organic cull cows in Ballylagan.

Established by Alanagh Chipperfield and Ilse Van Stasen, this business has grown from humble beginnings, starting out at the Belfast Markets, to become Northern Ireland's most awarded South African Biltong Producer, including winner of the BBC TV Show ‘Top of the Shop with Tom Kerridge’:

The home of Ke Nako Biltong, Ballylagan Organic Farm, is a 120 acre family farm located in Straid.  The Farm, established in 1999 is owned and operated by Patricia Gilbert and family.  They are also committed to using organic and sustainable farming practices to produce the highest quality produce possible.

The farm is a haven for wildlife and provides two self-guided trails on the farm for visitors and customers to enjoy.  You can even make a night of it by staying at the self-catering apartment above the farm shop.  With horse riding, private gardens, bicycle hire and always something good to eat, you are sure to have an enjoyable time.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Mark Cooper commented

“Ilse, Alanagh and everyone who is part of Ke Nako Biltong are to be congratulated on bringing this range of fascinating and tasty snacks from South Africa to Antrim and Newtownabbey and beyond. It was a pleasure visiting them at Ballylagan Organic Farm to see the full range of organic snacks available and to appreciate the sustainable methods the farm have been using to create the highest quality produce for over 20 years.  I wish them both continued success for their future.
