Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Celebrates Success at Translink Ulster in Bloom 2024

Antrim and Newtownabbey towns and villages are celebrating a remarkable achievement as four towns and villages have been recognised at the Translink Ulster in Bloom 2024 competition.

This prestigious annual event honours the most beautiful plant and floral displays across cities, towns, and villages in Northern Ireland.

Randalstown and Ballyeaston both secured first place awards, while Ballynure proudly earned a second place. Overall, the four participating communities from the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area excelled across the following categories:

  • Small Village: Ballyeaston – 1st place; Killead – 3rd place
  • Small Town: Randalstown – 1st place
  • Large Village: Ballynure – 2nd place

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Neil Kelly said,

“This annual competition showcases the vibrant community spirit within our Borough, highlighting the incredible work and dedication of local volunteers and our own staff. People in our community such as Ruairi McCormack from Tidy Randalstown, who picked up the Britain in Bloom Community Champion award earlier this month, are the backbone of those who make a huge difference in our community and I commend their efforts.

“The countless hours spent planning, planting, and going the extra mile means we can see vast improvements in biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability in our villages and towns. Congratulations to all those involved.”

The Translink Ulster in Bloom competition is coordinated by the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA).
