This recognition highlights the outstanding achievements and commitment of the planning staff and committee in delivering innovative and effective planning services across the Borough.
Organised by the RTPI, the Northern Ireland Awards for Planning Excellence celebrate the most inspiring and impactful plans, projects, and professionals who are shaping communities for the better.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick commented on last night’s win;
“To be named as Planning Authority of the Year is a significant honour, reflecting the Council’s dedication to sustainable development, community engagement, and exemplary planning practice. This award is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of our planning staff and committee.”
Judges at the award ceremony commended the Council for its positive attitude;
“Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has showcased a focus on high quality stakeholder and community involvement, and a can-do attitude to improve performance and enhance the socio-economic status of the Borough. The local authority performance status is commendable, and it is great to see the team developing new ways of working and solutions to progress development and investment in the council area. It is clear from the customer satisfaction comments that agents and applicants have positive experiences with the planning team in this authority, which demonstrates a high level of customer care.”
Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Councillor Rosie Kinnear, added;
“This nomination is a clear reflection of the Council’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to delivering high-quality planning outcomes. Our planning team consistently works to ensure that development across the Borough is sustainable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of our residents.”
The Council will now be entered as a finalist for the National Awards for Planning Excellence with results being revealed in Mid-October.
