As part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and recycling, every household that visits one of the Borough’s five Household Recycling Centres during the week will be eligible to receive one FREE bag of peat-free compost. The giveaway begins on Monday 5 May, and bags will be available while stocks last.
To qualify, residents are encouraged to bring along recyclable items such as garden waste, batteries, scrap metal, wood, or electrical items for recycling. In return, they’ll receive a complimentary bag of high-quality compost, produced locally by Natural World Products using the very food and garden waste collected from residents’ brown bins and recycling centres.
“This is recycling in action,” said Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Neil Kelly. “In promoting sustainability, every small action matters. I would encourage residents to take this opportunity to collect their free bag of compost. By doing so, we contribute to a greener environment and a healthier future for all.”
Adding compost to gardens, allotments, or green spaces helps return vital organic matter to the soil, enhancing soil health and capturing carbon, which plays a crucial role in fighting climate change.
