Council Launches Sister Cities Youth Exchange Programme 2026

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is offering an incredible opportunity for up to four young people from the Borough to take part in its six-week Youth Exchange Programme with its Sister City, Gilbert, Arizona.

The exchange will give participants a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience, including three weeks living with a host family in Gilbert and three weeks hosting their matched Gilbert partner here in Antrim and Newtownabbey. The programme aims to build international friendships, enhance personal development, and promote cultural understanding between young people from both communities.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick commented,

“This Youth Exchange Programme is a fantastic opportunity for our young people to gain new experiences, build confidence, and make lifelong friendships across the world. We’re proud to continue strengthening our partnership with Gilbert, Arizona, and I would encourage anyone who is eligible to come along to an information session and find out more about this unforgettable adventure.”

All travel expenses for the Programme will be covered by the Council, however participants are expected to provide their own passports, spending money and apply for a U.S. visa. Applications must be submitted online by 5pm on Monday 05 January 2026.
