Change Fund Celebration Event Showcases Community Impact and Premieres Powerful New Short Film

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council welcomed partners, young people and community representatives to a highly successful Change Fund Celebration Event held on Thursday 26 March at the Movie House, Glengormley.

The event celebrated the achievements and impact of the Change Fund programme, which supports innovative projects addressing issues linked to the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls initiative. Attendees gathered to recognise the progress made through collaborative partnership working and to reaffirm a shared commitment to creating safer, more inclusive communities.

The celebration was attended by Deputy Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Julie Gilmour, on behalf of the Mayor, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick. Also in attendance were students and staff from Edmund Rice College and Parkhall Integrated College, as well as community partners, stakeholders and programme participants.

Guests viewed a specially produced compilation video showcasing the range of Change Fund projects delivered across the borough. The video highlighted the creativity, collaboration and positive social impact achieved by local organisations and young people working together to challenge harmful behaviours and promote respect and equality.

A key highlight of the afternoon was the premiere screening of “Likes”, a powerful short film created by Cinemagic and filmed on location at Scrapyard Golf, Glengormley. The film explores contemporary issues affecting young people and aligns closely with the objectives of the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls initiative.

The screening was warmly received, prompting meaningful discussion on the role of media, education and community action in addressing violence and promoting positive relationships.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Julie Gilmour said: “It was a pleasure to join partners and young people to celebrate the impact of the Change Fund programme. These projects demonstrate the power of collaboration in promoting respect, equality and safer communities.

“The premiere of ‘Likes’ highlights the real challenges young people face today and the importance of education and open conversation in building positive relationships. Ending violence against women and girls is a shared responsibility, and it is vital that we continue to support and empower young people to be part of that change.”

The event highlighted the continued importance of partnership working between schools, community organisations and statutory agencies in supporting lasting social change.
