Antrim and Newtownabbey Planning Committee has approved plans for a £15M distribution centre for DHL in just over 16 weeks, well below the 30-week target.
The new distribution centre at Ballyearl Business Park, Newtownabbey, will comprise a 9,340 sqm storage and distribution facility with ancillary services, office space, solar panels an external yard, including HGV and car parking, landscaping and infrastructure works.
Representing a total investment of £18 million in the local economy, the development will create 80 new full-time jobs, retain 200 existing full-time roles, and support a further 100 construction jobs during the build phase.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Henry Cushinan commented;
I welcome this major investment for Newtownabbey. This new facility will help retain DHL supply chain within the Borough while creating additional employment in both construction and distribution sectors.
Chairman of Antrim and Newtownabbey Planning Committee Alderman Lewis Boyle added;
“Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough is a prime location for distribution, this multi-million investment further underpins the Borough’s reputation as a hub for distribution excellence.”
